An ideal weight calculator answers a deceptively simple question — what should I weigh for my height? — using formulas that physicians have relied on for decades. Enter your height in centimeters, pick your sex, and this tool computes your ideal body weight by four classic equations at once: Devine (1974), the standard used for drug dosing in medicine; Robinson (1983) and Miller (1983), two later refinements of it; and Hamwi (1964), the original quick rule of thumb. Each formula starts from a base weight at 5 feet and adds a fixed number of kilograms per inch of height above that.
Why four numbers instead of one? Because there is no single scientifically 'correct' ideal weight — each formula was fitted to different assumptions, and together they form a realistic corridor rather than a false point target. To ground the estimates, the calculator also shows the healthy BMI weight range for your height: every weight between BMI 18.5 and 24.9, the band the WHO classifies as normal. If the formula results and the BMI range disagree, the range is the more robust guide, since the classic equations were never designed for very short or very tall bodies. For heights under 5 feet the formulas do not apply at all, and the tool says so honestly instead of extrapolating nonsense.
