Need to turn a plain list into a numbered one — steps of an instruction, entries of an inventory, lines of a log or a poem for review? Typing "1.", "2.", "3." by hand is tedious, and one inserted line later means renumbering everything below it.
This tool adds line numbers in one click and keeps everything on your device: the text is processed by your browser only, so private notes and internal documents never travel to a server. Paste the text, choose a format, and copy the numbered result.
The numbering is fully configurable. Pick the separator that fits your document — a dot, a parenthesis, a colon, a dash, or a tab character when you plan to paste the result into a spreadsheet as two columns. Set any start number and step: begin at 100, count by tens, or even use a negative step for a countdown.
Two finishing touches keep the output tidy: zero-padding aligns the numbers to the width of the largest one (01, 02 … 10), and the skip-empty-lines option leaves blank lines in place but unnumbered, so paragraph breaks survive. A short summary shows how many of the total lines received numbers.
