About this tool

For a series or parallel RLC, the page calculates resonant frequency, Q and bandwidth from the R, L and C you enter.

Use it when you need to know how sharp a tank will be, not only where it resonates.

Q here is the ideal component Q. Core loss, capacitor ESR and layout resistance make a built circuit broader than the number.

Example. A series circuit of 10 Ω, 1 H, and 1 µF resonates at 1000/(2π) Hz with quality factor 100.

Limit. Series Q is ωL/R and parallel Q is R/(ωL); both assume ideal lumped parts with no extra ESR.
