About this tool

Load an audio file whose type starts with audio/, and the page decodes it with the Web Audio API. The waveform is the first channel, drawn across the canvas, with a start handle and an end handle. You can type the times or drag. While you drag, the nearer handle follows the pointer, and the start is kept at least 0.01 seconds before the end. The caption under the canvas shows the start, the end, and the length of the selection. The source player keeps playing the whole file so you can hear where the handles sit.

The download is a new buffer containing only the samples from the start time up to the end time, clamped so the end cannot pass the decoded duration. That buffer is written as a RIFF WAV: 16-bit PCM, little-endian, interleaved, with the same channel count and sample rate as the decode. A selection from 1.00 to 3.00 seconds is a 2.00-second file. The name is the original base name plus -trimmed.wav, and the line under the player shows WAV, the duration, and the size in kilobytes.

An MP3 is accepted when the browser can decode it, and the result is still WAV. There is no MP3 encoder here, and the slice is not faded. A cut in the middle of a note starts and stops at the sample values that were already there. A range whose end is not after the start, or whose start is past the end of the file, is rejected before any download is built.

Example. Start 1.00 and end 3.00 on a longer file download as a 16-bit PCM WAV of that 2.00-second slice, at the source sample rate and channel count.

Limit. The end must be at least 0.01 seconds after the start and cannot extend past the decoded duration. The export is WAV only, with no fade-in or fade-out applied.

Can I trim an MP3 online and keep an MP3?

The browser decodes MP3, WAV, and other audio types it understands, then the download is always 16-bit PCM WAV. The file name ends in -trimmed.wav. There is no MP3 encoder on this page.

How do I cut a ringtone or a short clip?

Set start and end in seconds, or drag the handles on the waveform. A selection from 1.00 to 3.00 is exactly two seconds. The preview player scrubs the source while you adjust; the downloaded file contains only the samples inside that range.

Does the cut fade in and out?

The slice is a straight copy of the decoded samples. Nothing ramps the gain at the edges, so a cut in the middle of a loud note starts and stops at full level.
