About this tool
Enter the four bridge resistors and the excitation voltage. The page returns the differential output, how far the bridge is from balance, and that error relative to the excitation.
Use it when you are reading a strain gauge or another sensor in a bridge and want the voltage a differential amplifier will see.
Lead resistance, resistor tolerance and self-heating are not in the model. A small calculated output can disappear into those errors.
Example. Equal arms of 1 kΩ on a 5 V excitation produce a differential output of 0 V, with balance when R4 equals R3×R2/R1.
Limit. The bridge is an ideal DC divider pair; lead resistance and gauge factor are not included.
