You control the font family, the size relative to the image width, the color and the transparency, so the mark can be a subtle 20%-opacity signature in a corner or a bold diagonal notice across the middle.
A text watermark is the fastest way to claim authorship of photos you publish: unlike metadata, it survives screenshots, re-saves and social-media recompression. Photographers typically use 30–50% opacity in a corner for portfolio shots, while documents sent for review often carry a large rotated line at 45° so it cannot be cropped out without destroying the picture.
