About this tool

This page opens the steganography tool already switched to Decode mode, ready to extract a message that was previously hidden with the least-significant-bit technique. To read a hidden message, upload the encoded PNG or BMP image using the panel below — the tool scans the lowest bit of every red, green and blue color value, reassembles them into the original bytes, and checks for the tool's signature header before reporting the recovered text.

If the message was hidden with a password, the encoding step encrypted it using AES-GCM with a key derived via PBKDF2, so decoding also requires entering that same password below the upload area; without it, the extracted bytes stay unreadable ciphertext rather than the original text. An image that was never encoded with this tool, or one that has been resized, recompressed or otherwise altered, will not contain a valid signature and the tool will report that no hidden message was found.

Once you upload the encoded image (and enter the password if one was set) and submit, the tool decodes the hidden text and displays it directly, along with a bit-plane view of the color channels the message was extracted from.

Example. Hiding the text hi writes its bits into the least significant bit of successive PNG color channels and saves stego_secret.png.

Limit. The bit string must fit in the color-channel count, and a PNG without the expected payload is reported as having no hidden message.
