About this tool

This page opens the JSON formatter with a sample record already loaded and 4-space indentation preselected, so a clean, nested result renders immediately — paste your own JSON above to reformat it with the same spacing.

Four-space indentation is one of the most common formatting conventions for JSON and config files: it is wide enough to make deep nesting visually obvious at a glance, which is exactly what you want when tracing which array or object a value actually belongs to inside a large API response or configuration file.

Formatting never touches the underlying data — only whitespace is added between tokens — so the reformatted document is functionally identical to the original, just far easier for a human to read. If a tighter 2-space layout or a fully minified single line suits your workflow better, the same tool switches between all of them from one dropdown.

Example. The text {"b":1,"a":2} with sort keys and 2-space spacing pretty-prints with a before b.

Limit. A trailing comma fails JSON.parse and is not repaired.
