About this tool
This page opens the JSON formatter with a sample object already loaded and key sorting turned on, so you can see the properties reordered alphabetically the moment it loads — paste your own JSON above to sort it the same way.
Two JSON documents can contain identical data yet look completely different in a diff simply because their keys were written in a different order. Sorting keys alphabetically, recursively through every nested object, removes that noise: once every object follows the same ordering rule, a diff between two versions of a file highlights only the values that actually changed.
This is especially useful before committing generated config files, comparing API responses captured at different times, or reviewing a pull request that touches a large JSON document — the reordering is purely cosmetic and never changes what the data means, only how consistently it is arranged.
Example. The text {"b":1,"a":2} with sort keys and 2-space spacing pretty-prints with a before b.
Limit. A trailing comma fails JSON.parse and is not repaired.
