Nether Portal Calculator

The Nether is compressed eight to one: moving a single block in the Nether equals eight blocks in the Overworld. This calculator applies exactly that rule — enter any X, Y, Z position and it instantly shows both conversions: the matching Nether spot (X and Z divided by 8) and the matching Overworld spot (X and Z multiplied by 8). The Y coordinate is never scaled in either direction.

Precise numbers matter because of how portal linking works. When you step through a portal, the game converts your position, then searches for an existing portal near that converted point — within roughly 128 blocks in the Overworld or 16 blocks in the Nether. If a wrong portal sits inside that search box, you come out somewhere unexpected; if none is found, the game builds a new portal at the nearest safe spot.

To pair two portals deliberately, calculate the target coordinates here, travel to that exact spot in the other dimension, and build the second portal by hand before stepping through. Keep the Y levels reasonably close on both sides and remember the Nether limit: portals can only exist between Y=1 and Y=122, never on the bedrock roof — the calculator warns you when your Y is out of range.
