120 Hz is the signature rate of modern phones and tablets with adaptive displays, high-end laptops and TVs with gaming modes. Adaptive panels add a twist: to save power they drop to a much lower rate when nothing moves, and only ramp up under motion. The animated strips on this page keep the screen busy, which is usually enough to hold an adaptive panel at its top rate during the test.

If the verdict stays at fail, work through the honest checklist: smooth or high-performance mode enabled in system settings, battery saver off, and — on laptops and monitors — a cable and port that actually carry 120 Hz at your resolution. Some browsers also cap animation frames below the display's rate, so a second browser is a useful cross-check.
