This page opens the SERP preview with the meta description field in focus — paste your description and watch the character and pixel counters plus the rendered snippet update as you type.
The classic advice says 160 characters, but Google actually truncates descriptions by pixel width — around 960 px on desktop — so a description full of wide letters like m and w gets cut earlier than a narrow one of the same length. This checker measures both: characters against the 160 guideline and real rendered width using Arial font metrics, a close approximation of what Google uses.
Keep in mind that Google rewrites descriptions for many queries no matter how well you trim them — a good length only makes it more likely your own text is shown intact. The full tool also checks your title tag and previews the whole snippet on desktop and mobile.
