About this tool
This page opens the cron validator preloaded with `*/5 * * * *`, a step-value expression that fires every 5 minutes, all day, every day. Frequent polling jobs — health checks, queue processing, syncing a cache, checking for new data from an external feed — are exactly what this pattern is for.
The `*/5` in the minute field is cron's step syntax: instead of listing `0,5,10,15,20...55` by hand, `*/5` means 'every 5th value starting from the field's minimum,' so the job fires at :00, :05, :10 and so on through :55. The remaining four fields are all `*`, meaning no restriction on hour, day, month or weekday — the schedule runs continuously with no gaps. The validator checks the step value's syntax and range the instant the page loads.
Try changing the step in the box below — `*/15` for every 15 minutes, or `*/2` for every 2 minutes — or break the syntax with something like `*/0` to see how the validator responds to an invalid step.
Example. The expression 0 9 * * 1-5 is reported valid, with minutes 0, hours 9 and day of week 1-5.
Limit. Only 5 or 6 whitespace-separated fields are accepted, and a passing result does not list future run times.
