How Many Steps in a Mile? Distance to Steps
Convert steps to kilometers and miles (or find out how many steps a distance takes), using your real stride length or one estimated from your height, plus an optional walking calorie estimate.

This page opens the steps to km calculator in distance-to-steps mode with 1 mile already entered — the reverse of the usual steps-to-distance question, useful for setting a step-based goal from a known route or race distance. At the default height of 1.75 m, the estimated stride of about 0.72 m puts one mile at roughly 2,221 steps.
The commonly quoted "about 2,000 steps per mile" figure assumes an average stride around 0.80 m (2.5 ft); shorter people need noticeably more steps to cover the same mile, taller people need fewer. Enter your real height, or your measured stride length if you know it, for a number that actually matches your walk.
Change the distance field to any other value in kilometers or miles — a 5K, a 10K, or a specific commute — to get the step count for that route instead, with your weight optionally added for a calorie estimate on top.
