VAT questions always come in two directions. Sometimes you have a net price and need to know what the customer will actually pay; sometimes you are staring at a gross receipt and need to know how much of it is tax. This calculator answers both: enter one amount, pick the direction, and get the net price, the VAT amount and the gross total together.
The remove direction is where most manual calculations go wrong. VAT inside a gross price is not found by taking the rate percent off the total — a 120 gross at 20% contains 20 of VAT, not 24. The calculator uses the correct formula, dividing the gross amount by 1 plus the rate, so the extracted VAT always matches what an invoice or tax return expects.
The rate field accepts anything: the EU standard rates like 19, 21 or 23, the UK's 20, reduced rates such as 9 or 5.5, or decimal rates used elsewhere. Preset pages for popular countries fill the standard rate for you, and the amounts are plain numbers, so the tool works identically for euros, pounds, złoty, hryvnias or dollars.
