Convert Ounces to Grams
Convert cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, milliliters, grams and ounces with real ingredient densities — because a cup of flour does not weigh a cup of sugar.
Result
This page opens the cooking converter preset to ounces → grams. Unlike cups and tablespoons, this is a weight-to-weight conversion, so no ingredient density is involved: one avoirdupois ounce is exactly 28.349523 g (rounded to 28.3495 g here), and grams = ounces × 28.3495 for any ingredient whatsoever.
Useful anchors for reading recipes: 1 oz is about 28.3 g, 4 oz is 113.4 g (the classic quarter-pound), 8 oz is 226.8 g and 16 oz — one pound — is 453.6 g. A recipe calling for 6 oz of chocolate wants about 170 g; a 3.5 oz bar is your familiar 100 g.
Watch out for the fluid ounce trap: "fl oz" measures volume (about 29.57 ml in the US), not weight, and for dense or airy ingredients the two diverge quickly. If your recipe says fluid ounces of a liquid, convert via milliliters instead; if it says plain ounces of butter, sugar or meat, this weight conversion is the right one. Enter the ounces, press Convert, and copy the gram value straight into your shopping list.
