About this tool
This page opens the runes calculator with your current level already set to 1 and your target set to 40 — the classic early-game leveling stretch almost every new Tarnished searches for right after leaving the Chapel of Anticipation. Reaching level 40 from scratch costs roughly 132,000 runes in total, spread across forty individual level-up purchases that each get a little pricier than the last.
Level 40 is a natural early checkpoint: your starting stats have room to breathe, you can meet the soft requirements for a starting-class weapon or a favorite early spell, and you are still comfortably under-leveled for areas like Stormveil Castle or Liurnia if you want a fair fight. Because the level-up cost curve is still shallow this early, each level only costs a few hundred to just over a thousand runes, so the climb from 1 to 40 feels fast compared to leveling later in the game.
The numbers below update instantly if you tweak either level or add runes you are already holding, and the farming-spot estimates recalculate alongside them — useful for figuring out how many quick runs at an early location like the Stormhill trolls will cover the gap before you ever touch a boss fog gate.
Example. Going from level 1 to level 2 with no runes already held requires 673 runes. Reaching level 125 from level 1 costs 3,886,551 runes.
Limit. Both levels are clamped to the range 1 through 713. A target below the current level is raised to the current level. Farming counts divide by the stored yields 40000, 11000, 74000, and 1000.
