This fraction calculator does real fraction arithmetic the way it is taught: with common denominators, greatest common divisors and every intermediate step written out. Pick an operation — addition, subtraction, multiplication or division — enter two fractions, each with an optional whole part for mixed numbers like 2 3/4, and the result appears instantly in lowest terms, together with its mixed-number form and decimal value.

The step-by-step panel is the heart of the tool. For addition and subtraction it finds the least common multiple of the denominators, shows both fractions rewritten over the common denominator, and combines the numerators. For division it shows the reciprocal flip. At the end it computes the GCD of the raw result and shows the exact division that reduces it. This makes the calculator useful not only for getting answers but for checking each stage of your own working — which is where most fraction mistakes hide.

Beyond arithmetic there are three conversion modes. Fraction to decimal performs long division and detects repeating cycles, writing them precisely — 5/6 = 0.8(3), 1/7 = 0.(142857) — instead of an endless rounded tail. Decimal to fraction goes the other way, accepting both finite decimals like 0.375 and repeating ones written as 0.41(6), and reducing the result. Simplify mode reduces any fraction to lowest terms with the GCD shown.

Everything runs live in your browser: results recalculate on every keystroke, no server is involved, and it works offline. That makes it a handy companion for homework checks, recipe scaling, woodworking and sewing measurements in fractional inches, and any situation where 1/3 must stay exactly 1/3 rather than 0.33.
