This page opens the calculator in decimal-to-fraction mode. Type any decimal — 0.375, 2.5, -0.08 — and it is rewritten as an exact fraction in lowest terms, with the steps shown: 0.375 is read as 375/1000, the GCD of 125 is found, and the result is 3/8.

Repeating decimals work too, using parentheses for the period: enter 0.41(6) — meaning 0.416666… — and the calculator applies the classic subtraction trick with powers of ten to get 5/12 exactly. Plain 0.(3) becomes 1/3. This is something a phone calculator simply cannot express, because no finite string of digits equals 1/3.
