Fraction to Decimal Converter

The interesting part is fractions that do not terminate. A fraction produces a finite decimal only when its reduced denominator contains no prime factors other than 2 and 5 — so 3/4 gives exactly 0.75, but 5/6 gives 0.8333… forever. This converter performs the long division and detects the cycle, writing the result in exact period notation: 5/6 = 0.8(3), 1/7 = 0.(142857).

That exactness matters whenever rounding is not acceptable: checking homework answers, converting recipe or measurement fractions, or understanding why a spreadsheet shows 0.16666667 where the true value is 1/6.
