Before any road trip, the practical question is the same: how much fuel will it take, and what will it cost? This calculator answers both from three numbers — distance, your car's consumption and the fuel price — and, if you are sharing the ride, divides the result per passenger so nobody has to do envelope math at the gas station.

Its main convenience is unit flexibility. Fuel economy is written three different ways around the world: liters per 100 kilometers (Europe), kilometers per liter (much of Asia and South America) and miles per US gallon (the United States). Pick whichever your dashboard shows and the calculator converts internally — it also accepts distance in kilometers or miles and price per liter or per US gallon, in any currency you like.

The result shows the fuel needed in both liters and gallons, the total cost of the trip and the per-person share. That makes it just as useful for a daily commute estimate ('what does driving to work actually cost per month?') as for planning a long vacation drive or agreeing on fair contributions for a carpool.

Like every tool on this site it runs entirely in your browser: routes, prices and passenger counts are never uploaded or stored. For best accuracy use your car's long-term average consumption from the trip computer — real-world figures usually run 10–20% above laboratory ratings, especially in city traffic.
