This page opens the fuel cost calculator preset to the US convention: distance in miles, efficiency in miles per US gallon and gas price per gallon. Enter your trip length, your car's real-world MPG (a typical modern sedan does 28–35 highway, a full-size pickup 17–22) and the price at the pump.

The calculator divides miles by MPG to get gallons, then multiplies by price: a 300-mile trip at 30 MPG needs 10 gallons — 35.00 at 3.50 per gallon. The fuel amount is also shown in liters, and a passenger field splits the total evenly, which settles road-trip math in one glance.

Unlike L/100 km, with MPG a higher number is better; note also that a US gallon (3.785 L) is smaller than a UK imperial gallon (4.546 L), so British MPG figures read about 20% higher for the same car. This tool uses US gallons. All calculations run locally in your browser — nothing about your trip is uploaded.
