About this tool

This page opens the encoder with HTML entities mode preselected — paste your markup or text and get it escaped for safe display on a web page.

HTML escaping replaces characters like <, > and & with entities (&lt;, &amp; and so on) so browsers show them as text instead of parsing them — a must for code samples and for keeping user input from breaking your markup.

The full tool also unescapes entities and URL-encodes or decodes text — everything runs locally in your browser, so your snippets never leave the page.

Example. URL encode turns a b into a%20b. HTML encode turns a<b> into a&lt;b&gt; and a/b into a&#x2F;b. A broken percent escape in URL decode is written as Error: plus the decoder message.

Limit. URL encode is encodeURIComponent of the whole box, not encodeURI. HTML encode only maps & < > " ' and /. The parameter grid is shown only while encoding a URL that has a query.
