Long division is the schoolbook way to divide two whole numbers by hand: you take digits of the dividend from the left, ask how many times the divisor fits, multiply, subtract, bring down the next digit and repeat. This calculator performs exactly that procedure and draws the complete bracket — quotient on top, every product and subtraction underneath, each bring-down on its own row with digits aligned in columns.
For 1234 ÷ 56 you see that 56 fits into 123 twice (2 × 56 = 112), the subtraction 123 − 112 = 11, the 4 brought down to make 114, one more division step, and the final answer: quotient 22, remainder 2. Every step is also narrated in words below the bracket, so the layout works both as a checked answer and as a worked example you can follow line by line.
Beyond quotient and remainder, the result is shown as a decimal expansion to 10 places — and when the decimal repeats with a period of up to six digits, the repeating block is detected and marked with an overline, so 1 ÷ 7 renders as 0.142857 with the whole period overlined rather than an endless digit string. The mixed-number form with the fraction reduced to lowest terms (1234/56 = 22 1/28) completes the picture.
