This page opens the text to speech tool with a short work-email-style sample already loaded and the speed pushed up to 1.7x, then plays it back the moment the page loads so you can hear exactly how fast text sounds at that rate.
Listening at 1.7x is a proofreading trick as much as a time-saver: hearing your own writing read back at speed makes clunky phrasing, missing words and run-on sentences jump out in a way that silently re-reading the same text rarely catches, because your eyes tend to skip over mistakes you already expect to see. It is also simply the fastest rate most listeners can still follow without losing the meaning of ordinary sentences.
Paste in a draft email, report or article you need to check quickly, and if 1.7x feels too fast to fully follow, drop the rate slider toward 1.3-1.5x — that range still saves time over normal reading while staying easier on the ear for longer passages.
