This page opens the tile calculator framed for laminate and vinyl plank flooring — the underlying math is identical to tiling, since a plank is just a rectangular unit of flooring measured by its own footprint. Enter your custom plank dimensions in the tile-size field (a common strip is around 7×48 in, but click-lock vinyl planks and wide-format laminate vary by brand), plus your floor's length × width or area.

Waste for plank flooring follows the same logic as tile: a straight, wall-to-wall lay in one direction needs about 10%, while a diagonal or herringbone plank pattern — increasingly common with vinyl — pushes closer to 15% because more end cuts go to waste. Planks are usually sold by the box in square footage or square meters rather than by count, so fill in the tiles-per-box field with the number of planks per box from your product's packaging to get an accurate box count.

Unlike ceramic tile, laminate and vinyl plank don't use grout, so you can leave the grout gap field at its default — it has no effect on plank flooring math.
