This page opens the dead pixel test directly on a solid black panel: one press of the start button and the entire screen goes black. Click or use the arrow keys for the other colors, Esc exits.

Black is the mirror image of the white test: stuck pixels betray themselves as tiny glowing points of color on a field that should be completely dark. It is also the classic OLED check — an OLED panel switches its pixels off entirely for black, so in a dark room the screen should be indistinguishable from a powered-off one. On an LCD the same dark room reveals backlight bleed and clouding along the edges.

Beyond testing, a black page makes a decent idle screen: on OLED displays it emits almost no light at all, and on any panel it is the least distracting thing a spare monitor can show. Note that an LCD backlight stays on behind the black — only OLED gets truly dark.
