The blue field drives only the blue subpixel of every pixel. A dark speck on blue means that pixel's blue channel is dead; a spot glowing in another color reveals a stuck subpixel next door. Blue is worth checking even when white looks clean, because a single failed subpixel barely shifts a white pixel's appearance.

To avoid confusion: this is a plain solid-blue test page, not the Windows "blue screen of death". If your computer shows a blue screen with an error code on its own, that is an operating-system crash — a completely different problem from the display defects this test looks for.
