Image to Text is a free online OCR (optical character recognition) tool that pulls editable text out of pictures: screenshots, photos of documents, scanned book pages, receipts, signs and labels. Drop a PNG, JPG, WebP or BMP file, choose the language of the text in the image, press the button — and get selectable, copyable text with a confidence score.

The tool is built on the Tesseract OCR engine compiled to WebAssembly, which means recognition runs inside your browser tab, not on a server. Your image is never uploaded anywhere — the only thing fetched from the network is the compact language model for the language you pick (a few megabytes, downloaded once and cached). That makes the tool safe for private documents: contracts, IDs and personal notes never leave your device.

Twelve recognition languages are available: English, Ukrainian, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Dutch, Turkish, Czech and Romanian. Picking the right language matters — each model knows its alphabet's special characters (Ukrainian ї and ґ, German ß, Spanish ñ, French accents), and running text through the wrong model silently corrupts exactly those letters. A live progress bar shows model loading and recognition, and the result arrives in a text box ready to copy or download as a .txt file.

OCR quality depends on the source image: sharp, high-contrast text on a plain background recognizes almost perfectly, while blurry photos, decorative fonts and busy backgrounds lower accuracy. The confidence percentage shown under the result tells you how sure the engine is — if it drops below ~80%, try a sharper photo, straighten the page, or increase the image resolution and run it again.
