Cents are decided by the third decimal, the mill. An item priced at 17.386 rounds to 17.39; a unit price of 0.0449 becomes 0.04. The financially famous case is 2.675: floating-point software stores it as a hair under 2.675 and outputs 2.67, silently shaving a cent — this calculator works on the written digits, so the half-up answer is the correct 2.68. On an invoice with hundreds of lines, those stray cents are exactly the kind of discrepancy an auditor asks about.
