This page preselects the tens place in the rounding calculator: whatever you enter comes back as a multiple of 10, together with the digit that determined the direction.
The ones digit is the judge. 87 has a 7 in the ones place, so it climbs to 90; 84 has a 4, so it drops to 80. The tie sits at 45: standard half up pushes it to 50, while banker's half even also lands on 40 — the 4 is even, so a perfect tie stays put. Decimals work too: 87.3 still rounds to 90, because everything after the ones digit only matters when that digit is exactly 5.
Rounding to tens is the first estimation skill taught in primary school and a handy way to make mental arithmetic friendly — quick totals in a shop, headcounts, distances in kilometres. Enter any value, compare the four modes, and copy the result with one click.
